Hey Zat,
Really enjoyed your post, thanks man!
The mind, in terms of the “brain in action”, is a tool. We can use it, but we are much greater than it. The teachings of the Buddha, as I understand them, is not to dismiss, deny, reject, or get rid of thought, but to show that we are much more than the mere contents of the thoughts that run around in our heads day-to-day, and with which we typically get identified—causing A LOT of our limitations and suffering.
The thinking mind is essential for navigating the world, interacting with others, using our bodies, problem-solving, and basically getting anything done as a person. But it is just one part of who we are. Do you — the typical I or “small self” you think you are — pump blood around your body? Do you, generate your own thoughts? Do you digest your food, grow your hair, fight off infection, etc etc.?
I’m not asking you personally haha. Of course, we know the answer. At least we think we know.
Just a thought…
All the best man,
Joseph
